This stunning vintage Jacla necklace made up of earthy turquoise heishi beads is something to be cherished. The tone and colour of these beads are gorgeous, ranging from bright deep blue to sea foam green with flecks and hues of golden and chocolate brown matrix, offset by a set of white shell kernels, red coral tips hand rolled silver beads. A lovely, classic piece for the collection.
A traditional Pueblo jewelry adornment, a Jacla (Navajo word for âear stringâ) is two loops of heishi that were originally earrings and sometimes fastened to the bottom of a stone necklace as a pendant-like attachment. Although attributed to the Rio Grande Pueblo Natives, Jaclas were traded with other tribes so have become associated with the Navajo as well. They are seen in vintage photos being worn by members of all southwest tribes, both men and women.
